So What Do We Do...?????
A couple of issues that are on my mind and I am sure on yours...
Locally in Atlanta...ENDA...may be taking center stage again...
The HRC (Human Rights Campaign) Dinner, will be held on May 3, 2008...at the Hyatt Hotel
downtown Atlanta...and as of right now...there is a permitted protest scheduled to start at 6pm...protesting the position that HRC took..in October/07 to support a bill ... HR 3685...a non-inclusive Employment Non-Discrimination Act....opposed to HR 2015...which included the Gender Identity language...and protected our most marginalized members of the GLBT community...namely the Transgender Community...
Protest are taking place across the nation, protesting what is the biggest fundraiser for HRC...namely the Dinner...in Houston, the police was called out for the 11 Transgender protesters... What will happen in Atlanta on Saturday????
Unlike in other cities, Atlanta will have a SECRET MEETING with a select group of Transgender community leaders...to supposedly discuss the decision of not standing with UnitedEnda...to support the all inclusive ENDA...as HRC did...a decision that has ended up with the resignation of the only Transgender Board Member, Donna Rose...and Diversity Director..in November/07...and numerous other resignations across the nation from the leadership grassroots front lines...of HRC...not to mention the utter and tragic demise of the Diversity work that had been done, not only in Atlanta but across this country...for the last 4-5 years...hundreds of individuals across the country...worked toward one goal...building community, forming relationships, and earning the trust of not only the Transgender community but of all the GLBT community that is grassroots, and not from what HRC is known to cater to...the elite gay community....We worked hard, we cried, and we laughed and mostly we believed that HRC would stand with us...when the waters got rough...but they bailed out...when we as a community needed them most...they broke the promise and they betrayed their own mission statement...and they broke our hearts...for the sake of political expediency.
My question or maybe questions ..about this secret meeting...
First I want to know what in the world can Joe, the President of HRC talk to 5 or so individuals...about...what in heavens name can he say...that he can not say to the entire community...in September 2007...at the SCC...Southern Comfort Conference...he spoke to 1000 Transgender Individuals and Allies...I know I was there...he said that HRC would not support any legislation that did not include ...Gender Identity...and besides that...in 2004 HRC made the promise, they gave their word then...to not support legislation that did not include Gender Identity...this is not new, I know I was there for this also...this has been going on for 11 years...how long do we wait...and who deserves protections...how do we lead in that context...that some are more deserving than others...WE CAN NOT...and THEY CAN NOT...and SECRET MEETINGS WILL NOT SERVE US...THE ENTIRE COMMUNITY...AS THEY SPOKE TO 1000 IN NOVEMBER...THEY NEED TO SPEAK TO 10,000 AND MORE...NOW...AND TAKE ACCOUNTABILITY FOR POOR JUDGEMENT...SPEAK OF THE TRUTH...AND APOLOGIZE TO THE TRANSGENDER COMMUNITY...THEN AND ONLY THEN CAN THERE BE REAL COMMUNITY...AND THE BEGINNING OF THE HEALING THAT IS NECESSARY...AND WE MUST HEAL AS A COMMUNITY...

This brings me to the Elections/08...Hillary/Obama...and the craziness it is brewing...
Politics...how I hate it...but our lives...are submerged in it...and we are almost drowning because of it...so what do we do...and who will fix it all for us????
It will take years to correct what has been done...to our nation, to our economy, to our children, to our lives...we are used as pawns when it is to the benefit...of those that are in positions of power..
My question from the beginning of this National Presidential Campaign...was and still is...who can best cut thru the politics, and find the answers ..the solutions...to the mess we are in...?????
We as a people are really in a barrel of pickles...on one hand we are given Hope, but hope is not a strategy...on the other hand...it is a matter of trust...our choices...Hope vs Trust...Obama vs Hillary....bringing us to ...What drives us, emotions, intellect, our best friend, information, or do we just go with the flow...or the latest pundit...
I will come back to this discussion later...I have to get ready for the radio program...and gather up the news...for you...in the meantime if you have some thoughts about this please post...since I am always looking for viewpoints that might differ from mine...but at the same time give me 'food for thought'
